The Trojan horse is not always a believable story, there are some aspects that are true and some that aren't I have found the the fact that the city was in fact destroyed is in fact a true story, but that the Greeks destroyed it isn't so true. According to nationalgeographic.com the horse did not happen at all, but it could have been a metaphor for Poseidon because the remains show that is could have been destroyed by an earthquake, but it for sure wasn't burnt down.
It's interesting that, while the REAL trojan horse might have been a work of fiction, the modern trojan horse (ie: a "trojan" virus - which hides inside a program, document, picture, movie or music file that the user wants to use) remains one of the most successful tactics in a hacker's arsenal.
